Inter And Barcelona Were Also In The Race To Sign Cristiano Ronaldo - Former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has revealed that both Inter and Barcelona also showed interest in signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United last summer.The Portuguese star moved to the Santiago Bernabeu and became the most expensive transfer in football history when los Blancos paid approximately €94 million for his services."Cristiano came to an agreement with Manchester United for a transfer to Real on December 8, 2008. During last summer there was no negotiation, everything was already concluded," he said to in an interview with Eurosport.The 58-year-old went on to explain that it was the player who eventually made the final decision to honour his previous agreement with the Spanish giants."The player accepted a clause of €30 million in case the transfer failed, but Inter and Barcelona also entered the race," he continued."The Red Devils were willing to resolve that clause for those two clubs and not sell to Real. Everyone knows there is not a good relationship between the two clubs [Manchester United and Real Madrid]."However, the situation was eventually resolved by Cristiano himself, who remained faithful to [his deal with] Real Madrid."Calderon resigned as president in early 2009, after allegations of vote-rigging and was eventually replaced by Florentino Perez.

Cristiano Ronaldo Hit With Two-Match Ban

Meeting this morning to discuss the red card shown to Real Madrid's Crisitiano Ronaldo in Los Blancos' weekend fixture against Malaga, La Liga's Competition Committee has decided to suspend the €94 million man for two matches, as reported by Marca.Madrid have decided to appeal the ruling in a bid to have the punishment reduced to one match. The Appeals Committee meets on Thursday and will make a final decision at that time. In the initial ruling the Competition Committee did not classify the player's action as 'aggressive', which would have carried a ban of at least three matches.

I Am Not In A Rut, The Goals Will Come - Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo

Speaking to the press before Real Madrid's friendly match against Albanian side Gramozi Erseke in Albania today, Cristiano Ronaldo spoke of his goal drought in 2010, after having finished 2009 in hot form. The Portuguese winger denied being worried about his inability to find the back of the net in Madrid's past three matches in comments reported by Marca."I am not worried, things like this come naturally because I continue to work in the same way. I am not in a rut and the goals will surely come," said CR9, who has not scored since Madrid demolished Zaragoza by 6-0 in the Santiago Bernabeu before the Christmas break.
