Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is in optimistic mood ahead of Monday night's clash with Barcelona in the Spanish Primera Division.
The first Clasico of the 2010-11 season takes centre-stage at Camp Nou tomorrow with Madrid a point ahead of their archrivals in pole position in the standings. Los Blancos have not yet suffered a defeat in any competition this season and Ronaldo is confident that they can maintain the record against Barca.
The Portugal international captain is also coy about the Clasico determining the championship race and has been quoted by Madrid's official website as saying, "The Clasico may be decisive, but we don't know yet. What's clear is that we intend to win the match.
"We know it is a very important game and we will be optimistic in our search for victory. We will know if it turns out to be decisive at the end of the season.
"There is much at stake for all of us. I'm just another player on this team. We all feel the responsibility of having to play a good game. I don't feel more pressure than the rest. I always want more, but my team-mates have the same thoughts and goals I have."
Madrid have lost the last four matches against Barcelona and in the corresponding fixture in 2009-10 went down 1-0. However, Ronaldo hopes for a change of fortunes on Monday.
"I hope the story changes this season," enthused the 25-year-old. "We haven't lost a single game yet, which is important because it makes us confident.
"We know it will be a difficult match, but we are proving to be a solid side. I feel confident and I hope we earn a good result."
He added, "It will only be natural for the Camp Nou crowd to greet our coach [Jose Mourinho] badly after what happened in the Champions League semifinals last year when he was at Inter.
"But we are not worried about it. We will concentrate hard and will not dwell on anything unrelated to the game itself."
